Our Philosophy

Care rooted in trust, not templates.

Tawakkul, a Quranic Arabic word for reliance and surrender, is the heart of how we practice. We don't replace your instincts; we protect them. Every family we walk with is met as their own whole story.

  • Trust your body

Pregnancy and birth are not problems to be managed. They are seasons to be supported with valuable guidance and empowering knowledge.

  • Unhurried presence

Real support can't be timed. We hold space with patience, listening before advising and never rushing your decisions.

  • Whole-family care

Your partner, your older children, your story, your community: all of it belongs. Wellness touches your whole life, not just the birth.

Dhouha Haddad, Founder · Birth/ Postpartum Doula & Registered Social Worker

Dhouha Haddad

Founder · Birth/ Postpartum Doula & Registered Social Worker

“Calm presence, steady support & knowledge-filled experience.”

Dhouha founded Tawakkul Family Wellness & Doula services after over a decade of walking beside families through all walks of life as a social worker, coach and doula. She holds space for every kind of birth: hospital, home, medicated, unmedicated, planned and unexpected. Her gift is presence, the calm that lets a birthing parent hear their own instincts, lean on their learning, faith and birth team. Dhouha leads our birth doula care and prenatal coaching, and personally matches each family with the right team member for their postpartum journey. As a mom of 3, Dhouha has learned that you can prepare for birth yet most of us weren't taught! She is here to help you make your experience empowering, helping you embrace it all and work through any challenges you're facing, together. So when you think back to your birth you say "it was blessed!" Dhouha's background

Lindsay Hyland, Birth & Postpartum Doula

Lindsay Hyland

Birth & Postpartum Doula

“Gentle presence & solid knowledge that makes it all feel more doable”

Lindsay is the steady presence families can lean on in the fourth trimester. As a birth and postpartum doula, she supports birth, recovery, feeding, newborn rhythm, and the emotional weight that so often goes unspoken. Lindsay is known for noticing the things others miss: the quiet exhaustion, the feeding struggle kept private, the parent who needs to be told it's okay to rest. Lindsay is also a mother of two who is passionate about the well-being of families and demonstrates this in the grounded care she provides.

Chantal Trotman, Birth & Postpartum Doula

Chantal Trotman

Birth & Postpartum Doula

“Tender care that brings the strength and calm out for every family.”

When Chantal supports a family she truly sees people: a mother who may need reassurance, a partner who wants to know how to help, parents trying to find their confidence, and a brand new little person being welcomed into a world filled with love. You can exhale around Chantal. You can ask her the question you think sounds silly. You can cry. You can laugh. You can tell her you’re scared. You can celebrate. Chantal's role is to listen, educate, nurture, advocate, and walk beside you without any judgement, ever. She built her professional foundation in social work, supporting people through vulnerable and challenging circumstances. That helped shape the doula she is today and strengthened her commitment to trauma informed, culturally responsive, compassionate, and inclusive care.

Khadija Moussaif, Holistic Nutritionist

Khadija Moussaif

Holistic Nutritionist

“Nourishment for your body & soul, honouring your nervous system.”

So many of our traditions honour food as medicine yet our modern life has disconnected us from that. Khadija helps women connect the dots between nutrition, gut health, hormones, stress, and lifestyle through a root-cause approach to wellness. She helps in bridging the mind, body, and spirit: to explore how physical, emotional, and energetic well-being influence one another. She helps you move beyond symptom management, reconnect with your body’s wisdom, and cultivate balance from the inside out. Khadija believes nutrition is a relationship, not a performance. Her care is practical and warm and will help you deepen your well-being in ways that set you up for a healthier you well beyond the consult.

The Journey

Held Families

Words from the families we've walked with.

“Dhouha supported me throughout my pregnancy, during my hospital stay, and especially postpartum when I had a difficult recovery. Her knowledge, calm presence, and reassurance made such a difference during a really vulnerable time. She genuinely listens, asks thoughtful questions, and takes the time to understand what you're going through. I never felt judged, and I always felt that the support I received was exactly what I needed. She brought me the most incredible homemade meals in the hospital and later prepared delicious, nutritious frozen meals for me at home, thoughtfully packaged with clear ingredients and heating instructions. She also helped me with breastfeeding, braided my hair, listened when I needed to cry, and helped me navigate the challenges of supporting my toddler as she adjusted to the new baby. Dhouha understands that postpartum care is about so much more than the baby. She made an incredibly difficult recovery easier for me, and I'm so grateful for the care, knowledge, and kindness she brought into that experience. I couldn't recommend her enough!”

Rahma A., Ottawa

Mom of 4, Cesarean birth

“Dhouha was able to provide me with some tools and coping mechanisms to help me to gain more control over my own emotions. Her tips were tailored to my situation and helped lead better outcomes. Her thoughtfulness and empathetic nature helped me to ease my mind.. Thank you, Dhouha!”

Amber

Mom of 3

“I cannot imagine how I would have gotten through my birth without you showing up in the middle of the night. I didn't plan for or believe I could have a homebirth, and even though it's not what I planned it turned out perfect. Your massages saved me during those contractions. I am so happy you were there. Thank you.”
